Responsibilities:
- Forensic Investigation: Conduct detailed inspections and investigations of structural failures, damage, and defects in buildings and infrastructure.
- Perform thorough site assessments to identify potential causes of structural issues and collect relevant evidence.
- Analysis and Reporting: Analyze structural systems and failure mechanisms using engineering principles and forensic techniques.
- Prepare comprehensive and accurate reports detailing findings, conclusions, and recommendations for repair or remediation.
- Write and submit detailed and accurate reports on projects
- Communicate with Clients to provide timelines and project updates on a consistent basis.
- Collaboration and Consultation: Work closely with clients, contractors, and legal teams to provide expert opinions and testimony in legal proceedings related to structural failures.
- Collaborate with other engineering professionals, architects, and project managers to ensure a comprehensive understanding of structural issues.
- Technical Expertise: Utilize advanced tools and software for structural analysis, modeling, and simulation.
- Stay current with industry standards, codes, and best practices in forensic engineering.
- Provide testimony for litigation matters on an as needed basis.
- Occasional participation in marketing activities.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all forensic investigations and analyses are conducted in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain meticulous documentation of all investigative processes and findings.
- Investigations will require visiting sites to obtain detailed measurements recorded in concise and succinct notes and to take photographs documenting observations.
- Responsible for expert forensic analysis and evaluation of construction accidents and claims, building and structural failures and degradation, premises and walkway safety, civil-structural engineering claims, and construction and workplace safety.
- Safety evaluations include fall protection, scaffolds, shoring, roofs, platforms, guards, material erection, rigging and demolition.
- Failure analyses include steel, concrete, masonry, stone or wood structures and incidents involving storm, ice or wind claims, moisture damage, fire damage, drainage, and workmanship issues.
- Evaluations for compliance with codes and standards include OSHA, IBC, BOCA, ANSI, ASTM, ACI, AISC, and UBC.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or additional certification in forensic engineering would be a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of (5) years of experience in structural engineering with a focus and/or an interest in forensic analysis and investigation.
- Licenses/Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Additional certifications in forensic engineering or related areas is a plus.
- Soft skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
