Job Description

This is a Staff Research Associate position in the Kirkwood Lab, which is focused on investigating biomarkers in pancreatic cyst fluid, blood, urine, and saliva to be able to better understand pancreatic cancer and the risk of developing pancreatic cancer when patients have pancreatic cystic lesions. The incumbent, under supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), will perform laboratory experiments and data analysis for ongoing projects in the lab. Specific laboratory techniques he/she will perform include, and are not limited to, human blood processing (specimens collected by pre-op nursing/OR staff), aliquoting of pancreatic cyst fluid specimens, aliquoting of urine, and aliquoting of saliva. The incumbent will also be involved in receiving and transporting research specimens between the hospital and the laboratory. The incumbent will also be involved in scientific investigational research projects under the supervision of the PI. There will be opportunities to be co-author on publications. In addition to the scientific work, the incumbent will be responsible for basic lab/equipment maintenance and laboratory organization. It is important that he/she is a fast learner and pays attention to detail. He/she should be able to work well under the direction of the PI as well as independently. In addition to possessing a core set of knowledge and skills, he/she should be enthusiastic to acquire new skills as required by the direction of the scientific projects and troubleshoot new techniques as needed.


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).
