Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a team leader to staff performing complex technical functions within the Medical Cannabis Program. Determines eligibility of medical cannabis registry applications and completes final processing of applications including approval of the application and registry card printing. Recommends data field requirements needed in building and maintaining of Medical Cannabis Patient Database system (and its successors) analytic custom reports to suit the needs for ongoing data reports/requests. Generates daily, weekly, and bi-weekly reports in the Medical Cannabis systems. Monitors the Medical Cannabis data systems.

Essential Functions

1. Serves as a team leader to staff performing complex technical functions within the Medical Cannabis Program.


2. Determines eligibility of medical cannabis registry applications and completes the final processing of applications including approval of the application and registry card printing.


3. Recommends data field requirements needed in the building and maintaining of Medical Cannabis Patient Database system (and its successors) analytic custom reports to suit the needs for ongoing data reports/requests.


4. Generates daily, weekly, and bi-weekly reports in the Medical Cannabis systems such as newly approved qualifying patients and caregivers for reporting to the legislature, the governor’s office, and other partners as needed.


5. Monitors the Medical Cannabis data systems (Medical Cannabis Patient Database and its successors).


6. Assist in planning and conducting trainings on Medical Cannabis Patient Databases.


7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with courses in health education, physical and biological science.
  2. Requires two years professional experience in a health education or investigation program in the public or private sector.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. One year experience with application processing specific to medical cannabis patient cards.
  2. Two years of experience with providing technical guidance in a state or large business program.
  3. Two years of experience with data analysis, using information form a large healthcare database system.
  4. Three years of experience with writing reports on a regular basis, using data from a large healthcare database system.
  5. One year experience in testing healthcare database systems.
  6. One year experience in communicating and collaborating with other state agencies, such as the Department of Financial and Professional Regulations or the State Police.
