The Campus Security Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors at Community College of Aurora. Reporting directly to the Director of Security & Emergency Management, this position is responsible for overseeing the campus security team, assisting with the development and implementation of security policies and procedures, and responding to incidents that affect campus safety. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive experience in campus or institutional security, and a commitment to fostering a safe and secure learning environment. Description of Job DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leadership and Supervision:
  • Lead, manage, and supervise a team of Security Technicians, ensuring effective performance, professional development, and adherence to institutional policies.
  • Schedule and coordinate security shifts and coverage to meet the needs of the college and ensure campus safety.
  • Enforce state laws and the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support the professional development of team members.
  • Security Operations Management:
  • Assist Director of Security & Emergency Management with the development, implementation, and review of security protocols, procedures, and emergency response plans in alignment with institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist Director of Security & Emergency Management conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions.
  • Incident Response and Management:
  • Respond to and manage security incidents, emergencies, and crises, including coordinating with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
  • Investigate and document security incidents, and prepare comprehensive reports with recommendations for preventing future occurrences.
  • Ensure all security staff are trained to complete incident reports they prepare are thorough and appropriately documented.
  • Report and classify crime statistics in compliance with the Clery Act. Maintain logs and records, ensuring accurate tracking of Clery Act.
  • Prepare the Annual Security Report for the Director of Security & Emergency Management and Vice President of Operations/CFO to review and approve.
  • Safety and Training:
  • CPR/First Aid Certified Instructor, or achieve certification within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Assist Director of Security & Emergency Management develop and deliver training programs for security staff, faculty, and students on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and crime prevention.
  • Promote a culture of safety and awareness across campus through outreach and education initiatives.
  • Maintain all security and emergency management equipment, such as first aid kits, AED units, emergency oxygen tanks, and EPI Pens.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with campus departments, local law enforcement, and emergency management agencies to ensure cohesive and coordinated security efforts.
  • Maintain effective communication channels with the Director of Security & Emergency Management, providing regular updates on security issues and developments.
  • Ensure timely notification of significant incidents to the President, Director of Operations/CFO, and/or President's Division.
  • Collaborate with other campus departments within the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) and external agencies to enhance security operations.
  • Policy Development and Compliance:
  • Update, produce, publish, and report the Annual Security Reports, for Clery Act compliance, for all campuses annually.
  • Assist Director of Security & Emergency Management in the development and revision of security policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist Director of Security & Emergency Management in ensuring that all security practices are consistent with institutional values and policies, including those related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Technology and Equipment Management:
  • In collaboration with CCA's Information Technology department, oversee the operation and maintenance of security technology, including surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and access control systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend upgrades or enhancements to security equipment and systems.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification in security or law enforcement, an Associates or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Substantial supervisory experience to include creating schedules, performance management, and conducting regular 1:1 meetings with staff. Also, demonstrated experience with advanced problem solving within complex situations. Experience and knowledge of the Clery Act, and publishing Annual Security Reports for all campuses.
  • Certifications: Certification as an instructor in CPR/First Aid is required. May achieve certification within 6 months of employment.

  • Proficiency in security management software and technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage crises and make sound decisions under pressure.

Supplemental Information SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range is $68,620.00-78,913.00 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent , including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
