Job Description

Join our team as a Railman/Deckhand, a vital role in our rail loading/unloading operations. Our company is a leader in the maritime/stevedoring industry, offering a dynamic work environment with a strong commitment to customer service. As a Railman/Deckhand, you will ensure the proper loading and unloading of cargo, perform thorough inspections of rail cars, and maintain clear communication with your team and supervisor. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a dedication to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Inspect rail cars for residue, rust, and remaining cargo to prevent contamination.
• Ensure the proper operation of car gates.
• Communicate any issues with the loading and unloading of cargo to the Rail Supervisor.
• Clean the loading system and dry the conveyor belt prior to changing cargos.
• Complete loading and unloading reports after each shift.
• Ensure the correct placards are used when loading hazardous cargo.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• At least 2 years of terminal loading/unloading experience in a maritime/stevedoring environment (preferred).
• Ability to work collaboratively in the unloading of railcars.
• Experience in the stevedoring industry is preferred.
• Ability to consistently meet daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.
• Good verbal communication skills, and proven people and organizational skills.
• Commitment to customer service and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) as issued by TSA (Transportation Security Administration).
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen, as well as random drug screenings throughout employment.

Physical Requirements

This role requires physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. The incumbent will also be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to a hard hat, eyewear, safety vest, gloves, masks/ respirator (when necessary) and steel-toe boots. The job involves exerting in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/ or in excess of 50 pounds frequently, and/ or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
