About the Role & Team

Walt Disney Imagineering is at the forefront of technological innovation, continuously pushing the boundaries to build immersive and groundbreaking experiences for our guests. We are seeking an R&D Imagineer Manager, Productization, to lead the integration of advanced technologies into Disney's Parks & Resorts.

In this role, you will use your bold spirit and extensive experience in building hardware and software teams, establishing streamlined processes, and forging strategic partnerships to drive the successful commercialization of innovative concepts developed within our R&D Studio. You will supervise new technology productization initiatives extending across global portfolios and initiatives focusing on physical and virtual experiences within the theme parks and resort businesses.

This role will report to the Executive R&D Imagineer.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the technical productization and commercialization strategy of a portfolio of R&D initiatives and develop product roadmaps, using sophisticated technologies and manufacturing capabilities.

  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams and collaborators, spanning various segments, to conceptualize and implement innovative new technology initiatives.

  • Use start-up spirit to build hardware and software teams from scratch, coordinating design, engineering, packaging, and operations aspects of product development.

  • Identify and implement new productization opportunities.

  • Optimize product development processes to accelerate time-to-market for new products.

  • Identify and nurture manufacturing partnerships in smart toys, technology, novelty, and IoT verticals to support productization efforts.

  • Serve as a strategic sourcing partner, identifying and establishing supply chain channels to support Walt Disney Imagineering programs and initiatives.

  • Lead all aspects of end-to-end development processes, from design through manufacturing operations, including schedule management, RFQ, EP, PP/HVT, PVT, manufacturing partner selection, costing, SOW, line setup, fixtures, ramp planning, and shipping.

  • Engage directly in technical work including: code reviews, leading architectural discussions, facilitating problem-solving sessions, and mentoring and guiding engineering teams.

  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and training support across teams, including Sites, Operations, Finance, Legal, Business Development, Packaging, and Manufacturing.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in technical product development, engineering, or related fields.

  • Consistent record of successfully commercializing advanced technologies and products.

  • Strong technical expertise in augmented reality, virtual reality, robotics, and interactive media.

  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to coordinate sophisticated, multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Ability to translate technical requirements into actionable plans and deliverables.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, focusing on technical feasibility and scalability.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical partners.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $180,700 to $242,300 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
