Maintenance/Custodian Job Description:

The full-time custodian is responsible for performing janitorial duties, program & event set-ups/ breakdowns, and other tasks. We seek a proactive, entry-level maintenance/custodian who will ensure that all publicly accessible areas are clean, well-maintained, secure, and ready for use.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform general cleaning tasks, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing floors, sanitizing surfaces, kitchen cleanup and restocking supplies. 

• Make minor repairs.

• You will be asked to assist with minor outdoor tasks, such as clearing snow, salting icy patches, and picking up trash or debris from the parking lot and weeding.

• Be vigilant and report any maintenance issues that require more than a simple fix.

• Follow procedures for safely and properly handling chemicals.

Custodian Responsibilities:

• Maintain cleanliness throughout the building, focusing on high-traffic areas such as bathrooms, the sanctuary, preschool, kitchens, and meeting rooms.

• Collaborate with other maintenance team members and staff to ensure all areas are properly cleaned and stocked.

• Work independently or as part of a team to deliver thorough and efficient custodial services to the synagogue.

• Assist with minor outdoor maintenance tasks as needed.

• Operate power tools, including snow blowers, drills, sanders, and other equipment in the workshop.

• Follow safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe chemical handling.

• Assist with event setup and cleanup as needed.

• Report any significant repair needs to management.

• Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and submit requests for replenishment when necessary.

• Interact with staff, members, and visitors respectfully and positively.

Custodian Requirements:

• Pay: $16/hr

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent

• Experience: Entry-level with a general understanding of cleaning techniques and safety procedures

• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

• Background Check: Required

• Schedule: 10-15 hours per weekend (Friday: 4 hours, Saturday: 4 hours, Sunday: 4 hours)

• Flexibility is required to accommodate different events and needs during the weekend. A minimum of 10 hours per weekend is expected, with a maximum of 15 hours.
