Job Description

The Pastor Search Committee is seeking a spiritually mature leader who feels led to take on the role of Lead Pastor for Meadowridge Community Baptist Church. Meadowridge is located in a diverse community in south Fort Worth, a growing city that is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The ministry opportunities surrounding the church are numerous and changing each year.

Due to God’s special calling and enabling, Meadowridge has become a multiethnic church with the motto “all races united in Christ.” The church believes that this focus helps enable it to fulfill the Great Commission, beginning with its community. It is therefore seeking a pastor who believes in this vision and who desires to help the church to extend this vision further by fostering true unity among believers of various ethnicities and backgrounds.

Of course, this is not all that Meadowridge is about. It is a church that is deeply committed to evangelism and discipleship of people of all ages and life stages. The next pastor will be instrumental in leading the church in these areas, helping Meadowridge to build upon its strengths and shore up its weaknesses. There are many devoted servants at Meadowridge who are longing for a new pastor to teach them, direct them, and, most importantly, to love them with Jesus as his model (John 13:34-35).

PASTOR’S MINISTRY PRIORITIES

  • A well-prepared Bible teacher who preaches relevant, biblically faithful sermons that clearly convey the gospel, promote spiritual growth in listeners, and inspire believers to live lives worthy of the call of Christ.
  • A self-motivated leader who, working with the elders of the church, casts a vision for the church and functions as the primary voice communicating the vision. The leader’s vision should uphold the church’s commitment to “all races united in Christ.”
  • A soul-winner and disciple of Jesus who leads by example and whose personal walk with God is evident.
  • A shepherd who engages in pastoral counseling, visitation, and pastoral care when needed.
  • A leader who empowers staff, encourages lay leadership, and leads from a place of love and care.
  • A person characterized by strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, organizational skills, emotional intelligence, and personal humility.
  • A leader whose personality radiates authenticity, passion, and energy.
  • A person who is eager to serve the community and settle here for a significant season.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • A lifestyle congruent with the biblical requirements for leaders (1 Tim. 3:1-7; 5:17; 2 Tim. 2:1-3; 4:2; Titus 1:6-9).
  • A person who exhibits a personal and growing relationship with God.
  • A person of spiritual maturity with an active prayer life and ability to disciple others in spiritual disciplines (Gal. 5:22-23, 1 Cor. 13:1-7).
  • An evident unequivocal calling to the ministry of a lead pastor.
  • An ordained Baptist minister with no less than 5 to 10 years pastoring a multi-staff church. Experience leading a multiethnic church is preferred.
  • Education and/or ministry experience should include a Baptist connection.
  • A Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree or its equivalent is preferred, although other Master’s degrees in theology or ministry will be considered; a doctoral degree in Bible or ministry (DMin or PhD) would be a plus.
  • With beliefs that are consistent with the teachings of the Baptist Faith and Message of the Southern Baptist Convention (1925, 1963, 2000).
  • Understanding of and experience with Baptist ecclesiology and church polity, including an elder-led, but congregationally ruled model of church leadership.
  • A clear understanding of essential doctrines, as outlined in the Meadowridge Community Baptist Church Profile under “What We Believe,” and the ability to walk in unity and love with those who hold opposing views on non-essential doctrines.
  • Commitment to evangelism and outreach in an increasingly diverse community.
  • Serving the church and its community should be his top ministry priority.
  • Willingness to work as a team leader in a multi-staff context.
  • Leadership and organizational qualities evident from current and previous ministry positions, including the ability to foster unity.
  • Full agreement with Meadowridge’s bylaws and constitution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide and implement an overall vision for the church with the assistance of the church elders.
  • Serve as the spiritual leader of the church by operating as the church’s primary Bible teacher and preacher, by being responsible for the regular Bible-teaching ministry of the church, and by sharing the pulpit in keeping with “all races united in Christ.”
  • Spend an appropriate amount of time in study and prayer for personal growth and in preparation for preaching and teaching opportunities.
  • Work with the worship leader to plan worship services that include a multiethnic mix of music, including both traditional and contemporary styles.
  • Meet regularly and consistently with the church staff, elders, and lay leaders for training, discipleship, planning, and vision casting.
  • Meet with the church’s staff, elders, deacons, and lay leaders regularly to report on the spiritual, organizational, and financial health of the congregation.
  • Conduct weddings, funerals, and baptisms as needed in accordance with the doctrinal commitments of our church.
  • Officiate the Lord’s Supper on a regular basis.
  • Lead as a role model in personal discipleship, stewardship, and evangelism.
  • Develop relationships with other churches and organizations in our community that are consistent with our church’s mission and values.
  • Provide spiritual counseling to church members and families when needed, or provide relevant resources or referrals.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all church committees and teams.
  • Ensure an ongoing ministry to church members who are unable to attend due to illness or other physical limitations.
  • Wise involvement with, and use of, social media platforms.
