About the Governor's Summer Internship:

The summer internship program provides participants the opportunity to work with state agency officials, as well as participate in co-curricular components to enrich their experiences. Interns spend at least 50 percent of their time on predetermined projects that enhance college-level skills and abilities. The co-curricular components of the program ensure competitive, reputable, and inclusive experiential learning. Interns participate in cohort activities on a weekly basis designed to enable:

  • Professional growth and preparedness for the workforce upon graduation
  • Exposure to many facets of state government
  • Networking and camaraderie development among the cohort

The CHE College Enrollment Intern will work primarily as a member of the Postsecondary Transitions team supporting the implementation of Indiana Pre-Admissions: Your Path to College. You will report to the Director for Postsecondary Program Implementation. There are three pillars guiding the CHE HOPE Agenda – college enrollment, college completion, and college graduate retention – and the Indiana Pre-Admissions: Your Path to College Program is designed to increase college enrollment of Hoosier students immediately following high school graduation by matching students to higher education students in the state based on GPA and SAT for postsecondary education and training.

The intern will collaborate internally with the K-12 Outreach, State Financial Aid, Marketing and Communications, and Public Policy teams, and externally with higher education leaders in enrollment management (admissions and financial aid) and high schools with the goal of pre-admitted 100% of students in the class of 2025 to three or more institutions for fall 2025 enrollment.

A Day in the Life

The essential functions of the internship are:

  • Communicate with K-12 school superintendents, principals, and counselors to (a) sign up for pre-admissions for the class of 2025 and (b) submit preliminary graduation information (GPA and diploma type) to CHE’s ScholarTrack system to determine pre-admissions decisions.
  • Collaborate with CHE’s State Financial Aid team to upload data from the Indiana Department of Education to the ScholarTrack system and support CHE’s K-12 Outreach team to ensure that school rosters are up to date in the ScholarTrack system.
  • Communicate with the primary contacts for the participating higher education institutions to update for the class of 2025 in collaboration with CHE’s Marketing and Communication team.
  • Draft the August and September pre-admissions letters to be mailed to students and parents/guardians, as well as e-mail communications for high school counselors.
  • Partner with CHE’s Postsecondary Transitions Manager and Content Marketing Specialist to develop e-mail and social media campaigns for the 2024-2025 academic year to encourage the class of 2025 to submit college applications and the 2025-2026 FAFSA.
  • Collaborate with CHE’s Communications team on a press release and media outreach to promote Indiana Pre-Admissions, FAFSA filing, and Indiana’s $400M+ in state financial aid.

The job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time.

What You'll Need for Success

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
  • Academic work in a related field of study.
  • Must be a detail-oriented self-starter who can be given a need or objective, break it down into executable pieces, identify questions that need to be asked, gather priorities and requirements, set and manage milestones, and then execute effectively.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, public speaking, listening, processing, and synthesizing skills.
  • Strong computer literacy, including the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to work both as part of a collaborative team and independently.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with multiple entities and agencies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
