Event Staff serve as a vital part of the Event Services and Alaska Airlines Center's success.
As a team member, you will be an integral part of the event’s process including preparation, execution, and conclusion. Typical events include but are not limited to; athletics, banquets, concerts, comedy shows, conferences, and trade shows. The Event Staff position responsibilities include but aren’t limited to guest services, ushering, scanning, reception, conversions, custodial, crowd control, A/V (training required), and ticketing (training required). This position requires working events that may include large crowds, loud music, checking ID’s and working in a designated “wet” section (must be 21 and have TAPs certification to work in a designated wet section). The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud during events and minimal during non-event times. You must be able to stay calm under pressure, respond quickly and professionally to accidents/incidents, and inform managers of developing problems while assisting in de-escalation and prioritizing guest safety. Must be able to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when working high-profile events. The Event Staff position also requires constant use of interpersonal skills including the ability to take direction, effective communication both written and verbal, collaboration with others, providing an exceptional level of customer service, and the ability to recognize and overcome challenges. This position requires consistent movement including standing for long periods and the duties of this position are performed at The Alaska Airlines Center and may also include shifts at Event Services.
Job Duties:
Knowledge about UAA and the programs and services available to students is preferred.
Effective written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
Ability to interact with guests and staff on a respectful and professional basis.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including but not limited to nights, weekends, and holidays.
Responsible for assisting in the building's general cleanliness including occasional custodial and porter duties to provide tidy and sanitary amenities to clients & guests.
Assist Conversion Supervisors with event set-up, break-down, guest services, and crowd control.
Execute required conversion requests to ensure the facility is ready for each event.
Execute installation and dismantling of various conversion equipment, including but not limited to, staging, temporary flooring, trussing, demountable seating, and chair set/strike.
Assist with opening or closing of the facility for an event load-in or load-out.
Perform all duties at the cashier window including administering ticket selling for shows and monitoring inquiries and complainants for ticket sales.
Monitor and reconcile the cash drawer at the end of the shift and maintain records of daily transactions.
Experience with cash handling.
Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time.
Experience with facility coordination and general conversion knowledge.
Experience using cleaning products and equipment.
Provide accurate facility information and superior customer services to patrons.
Other organizational and administrative duties as determined by management.
Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and meet deadlines.
Ability to climb stairs, and lift 50 pounds – unaided.
Ability to stand for the entirety of shift.
Other duties as assigned.
To thrive in this roll the applicant would have previous Event and/or Guest Services experience. Customer service skills and strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Must be able to work in fast-paced, high-stress, loud, and crowded environments. Ability to stay calm and professional in emergencies as well as be able to de-escalate upset or inebriated guests.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a earned a high school diploma or equivalent GED. Must be 21 and have TAPs certification to work in a designated 'wet' section of an event.
Crowd Control Management training and TAMS/TIPS training preferred.
FERPA certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Title IX certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Behavior Based Safety (BBS) certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Workplace Harassment Prevention certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Protecting Payment Card Information training (annual training).
Position Details:
This is a part-time, temporary assignment with an hourly rate of pay of $16.15 per hour.
