Job Description

Job Description and Duties

Do you want to be part of an outstanding team that supports the state's 2,000+ local educational agencies in providing a world-class education to all of California's students? Are you passionate about problem solving and data accuracy to fund California schools? If you are interested in working in an exciting environment surrounded by a team of enthusiastic and self-motivated people, then look no further! The School Fiscal Services Division (SFSD) of the California Department of Education (CDE) is the right team for you. SFSD core values include Teamwork, Integrity, Customer Service, and Continuous Improvement.

Under direction of the Financial Accountability and Information Services (FAIS) Unit Administrator, this position facilitates transparency and accountability by informing the public and the legislature of the impacts of the state budget on the pay and benefits of the education workforce through the implementation of the School Employees Salary and Benefits Data Collection (SESBDC) required pursuant to Chapter 345 of the Statutes of 2024. In collaboration with education industry stakeholders, the incumbent develops and maintains the data reporting guidelines to ensure California’s transitional kindergarten through grade twelve local educational agencies (LEAs) consistently report salary schedules and benefits data to enable annual statewide reporting and analysis of changes in the compensation levels, state funding levels, overall economic conditions, and related impacts on the fiscal health and stability of the LEAs.

Specifically:

- Working cooperatively with FAIS - Information Services Unit B and the Technology Services Division, the incumbent develops and maintains the parameters for the SESBDC to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and alignment with education industry practices.

- The incumbent leads the analysis of the annual data and changes in certificated and classified salary schedules over time, and the development of annual legislative reports. Additionally, the incumbent responds to state agency, legislative, and public inquiries regarding data collected through the SESBDC.

- As the lead subject matter expert, provide guidance to the LEAs, legislative staff, labor groups, and interested parties on issues pertaining to the reporting and analysis of the SESBDC data; prepare and provide training to LEA administrators through workshops and webinars.
