Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
- Conducts thorough forensic examinations of computer systems, components, cell phones, and electronic data storage media.
- Utilizes necessary equipment to safely conduct analysis of submitted evidence utilizing experience and knowledge of a wide variety of digital technologies.
- Uses forensic tools and investigative methods to find specific electronic data, including internet use history, e-mails, photos, word processing documents, images, and other files; utilizes technical skills to locate files and information that has been hidden, deleted, manipulated, or lost.
- Forensically acquires, analyzes, and interprets evidence located on computers, storage media, or networks for use in criminal prosecutions or civil actions.
- Maintains strict adherence to chain of custody for all evidence and ensures integrity of each item of evidence handled and analyzed.
- Assists detectives and prosecutors in analyzing data and evaluating its relevance to the case under investigation; assists in transferring the evidence into a format that can be used for legal purposes.
- Preserves and copies the original media.
- Prevents the transference of viruses, destructive programs, and inadvertent writings to and from the original media.
- Uses forensic software applications to analyze electronic media.
- Physically disassembles and examines computers and related hardware components.
- Collects, labels, secures, and transports evidence from crime scenes.
- Prepares investigative reports documenting forensic examination procedures and results.
- Forms and articulates expert opinions based on analysis and provides expert testimony in depositions, trials, and other proceedings.
- Assists in the preparation of search and seizure warrants, court orders, and subpoenas.
- Continually updates and develops skills regarding new digital forensic technology and the use of new software and hardware tools to extract information from digital systems.
- Attends training, workshops, and seminars to maintain current knowledge of trends and developments in the field of digital forensics.
- Provides expert testimony in court.
- Must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, callouts, and standbys.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
