Job Description

The areas of responsibility with detailed job descriptions are below:

Laboratory Instruction:

• The Lab Manager will teach some introductory chemistry lab courses, e.g., introduction
  to chemistry, chemistry for health sciences, and power of science.

Laboratory Preparation and Scheduling:

• The Lab Manager will be primarily responsible for setting up chemistry undergraduate
  labs in coordination with lab instructors. The applicant will be primarily responsible for
  preparing labs for introductory, general, and organic chemistry courses.
• The Lab Manager will ensure that the lab spaces are clean. He will be responsible for
  setting up labs with relevant instrumentation, chemicals, and reagents for lab activities for
  the day.
• The Lab Manager will ensure that student lab lockers are fully stocked and secured.
• After lab activities have finished for the day, the Lab Manager will ensure that lab spaces
  are cleaned and that all instruments, glassware, and equipment used are cleaned and
  properly stored.
• The Lab Manager will liaise with the Administrative Assistant of the department to keep
  records of, and track student numbers for planning lab schedules.

Inventory Management and Record-Keeping:

• The Lab Manager will purchase, stock, and maintain inventory for the chemistry
  stockroom with chemicals, reagents, glassware, and necessary consumables.
• The Lab Manager will be responsible for keeping lab records and literature including
  purchasing records, warranties, lab textbooks, lab manuals, videos, computer hardware
  and software, and experimental instructions and procedures.

Budget and Personnel Management:

• In relation to inventory management and record keeping, the Lab Manager will assist in
  operating and reporting on departmental budgets under the supervision of the Department
  Chair. This will include transactions using the department's Visa card. (Please note there
  are several budgets to track).
• The Lab Manager will assist in hiring, training, and supervising a Stockroom Assistant
  (part time) and student workers assigned to the department.

Chemical Waste Management:

• The Lab Manager will be responsible for coordinating the disposal of wastes generated
  from our chemistry labs.
