Anesthesiologist for the VA in Minneapolis, MN
WHAT: - Seeking 1 full-time Anesthesiologist for the VA in Minneapolis, MN
- We have an exclusive contract with 1(one) Anesthesiologist there currently, and the VA wants to add a 2 nd.

- This is a full-time position. The 5-year contract offers stability for both our company and the providers. It’s like any other job—if you choose to stay long-term, it’s there for you. But if life changes and you need to leave, just give us a 60-day notice. We do not have a non-compete clause.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Two years recent experience providing anesthesiology services in a hospital OR setting, and must have recent cardiothoracic experience.
- Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA)
- BLS, ACLS
- Licensed in any state, full and unrestricted
- Must be able to pass the VA’s background investigation
COMPENSATION: - 1099, all inclusive
- M-F regular hours: $430/hr
- On-call (from home): $100/hr
- On-call Holidays (from home): $125/hr
- Call-Back: $475/hr

MODEL: Anesthesiologists may personally administer anesthesia or may medically direct CRNAs or anesthesiology residents
DEPARTMENT: - Hospital is open 24/7/365
- Staff makeup is 12 Anesthesiologists and 28 CRNAs
- On average, thirteen (13) operating rooms and two - three out of OR procedure rooms (GI, Cardiac Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology) staffed daily.
- Average annual case load is approximately 6085 cases performed in OR surgical suites and approximately 700 procedures requiring anesthesia support in procedure rooms
TYPES OF CASES: - Predominate patient age is 65 – 75, and average ASA is 3 – 5
- All small cases, lumps, bumps, biopsies, etc. are conducted in clinics.
- The Medical Center conducts cardiac cases (angioplasty, stents, ablation, open heart, CABS and value repair and replacements), large vascular cases (aneurysms) and cancer surgeries with over 66% of cases classified as major surgery (cardiac surgery, orthopedic joint replacement, and major vascular, thoracic, neurosurgical, plastic, ENT, urologic and ophthalmologic operations)
- Diagnostic TEE for medical and surgical patients, and emergency airway management.
SCHEDULE: - Estimated 80 hours every two weeks except for weeks with Federal Holidays.
- The schedule is made by the department Chief and may vary based on the nature of the workload, needs of the service, and patient care requirements.
- Work schedules are provided a minimum of thirty (30) calendar days from beginning of the next month.
The normal schedule is as follows: - Start time is 6:30 a.m. – End time is 3:00 p.m. (8-hr. duty): or
- Start time is 6:30 a.m. – End time is 5:00 p.m. (10-hr. duty)
- Could be variable based on late start cases
- Staff Meetings Weekly, every Wednesday @ 7:15am – 8:15am
- All daily tours will include a 30-minute non-paid lunch break.
- Depending on the surgery schedule and needs of the anesthesia department, the start time may vary between 6:30a.m. – 12:00 noon. Late start cases will require the contract personnel to remain on-site until case completion. Schedule will be communicated daily.
On Call: - On-call hours are estimated not to exceed one call per week. Current on-call hours are:
- Weekday Call: Monday – Friday coverage is 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. next day
- Weekend Call: starts Saturday at 7:00 a.m. and goes to 7:00 a.m. on Monday
- Holiday Call: coverage is from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 a.m. next day
- Anesthesiologist may not work at another facility during VA tour of duty or on-call (Concurrent call is not acceptable).
- Anesthesiologist must be available for phone consultations with VA residents and physicians.
- On-call providers must be available within 15 min by phone and on-site within 60 min.
- When the Anesthesiologist is on-call, the Anesthesiologist will have the next weekday off (The day following call is considered a post-call or off day. This is a non-paid day).
Orientation: - A two-week (paid) orientation will be provided for new Anesthesiologists
- Week 1: will include an introduction to all Operating Rooms and Anesthesia policies and procedures.
- Week 2: new Anesthesiologists will be paired with a staff Anesthesiologist.
