Job Description

Clark College is currently accepting applications for two full-time, 12-month, exempt Accommodation and Retention Specialist positions in the Disability Access Center (DAC) department. These positions will report to the Director of Disability Access Center. The hours for this position are typically Monday ? Friday 8:00am ? 5:00pm. This role typically works a hybrid work schedule consisting of 70% in person/on campus and 30% work from home with some flexibility depending on time of the quarter and student needs. Hybrid work schedules are subject to change based off the needs of the college.


Under general guidance, these positions serve in a specialized capacity that support students? access to accommodations. These positions analyze disability documentation, assessments, and student interviews, to determine eligibility for appropriate and reasonable academic accommodations. These roles act as a liaison and resource between faculty and students to support student?s academic pursuits and helping Clark?s retention efforts for this nondominant group. These positions also conduct research into ADA laws and amendments, and Title II and III of ADA regulations. They have the authority to make decisions regarding accommodation access issues and determining reasonable and unreasonable accommodations. These positions work directly with students daily, as well as provide frequent consultation and training to faculty and occasionally staff. Determinations regarding disability accommodations are a critical function of this position for the students at Clark College.

  • Determine the appropriate accommodation(s) on a case-by-case basis by evaluating and interpreting student disability documentation in conjunction with student?s self-report.  This includes tracking determinations, at times consulting with providers or other DAC team members, as well as responding to student?s concerns or questions regarding determinations.
  • Facilitate daily student meetings for the accommodation determination process and when needed course consultation for disability related considerations and/or referral to campus supports.
  • Offer advising and training to faculty and staff in relation to accommodation provision.
  • Problem-solve with students, staff, faculty, regarding issues associated with accommodations and access. Act as liaison for students to ensure the college is providing mandated accommodations and resolving conflicts in relation to access in the classroom.
  • Assist students with accessing DAC services and processes for using their approved accommodations.
  • Train students on how to use the accommodation management system called myAccess, (which is AIM software).
  • Lead projects to aid access and/or retention efforts for students with accommodations:
    1. One position will continue to develop and lead a Students with Disabilities Peer Mentor group for students to cultivate sense of belonging and aid in retention efforts. (Peer mentors can provide 1:1 accommodation coaching and plan events). Includes leading the framework of program peer mentoring; collaborating with ODEI/ASCC for best practice and recruitment; establishing assessment such as learning outcomes and tracking retention aspects of participants term to term.
    2. One position will lead notetaking accommodation coordination most quarters. As well as facilitate with Director?s support the annual winter quarter Learning Evaluation project for a few students to be referred to a community psychologist through our Guided Pathways grant.
  • Develop, track, and coordinate best practices for note taker accommodations. Lead notetaking coordination most terms.
  • Lead or co-lead with the other DAC Accessibility specialist: outreach to students who are struggling academically; connecting students to particular on and off campus resources.
  • Provide leadership and consultation to the DAC staff along with the DAC Director and assist with day-to-day operations of DAC. 
  • Assist the DAC team with implementation of student accommodations, including at times: supporting the front desk, proctoring of accommodated exams as back up or during finals, and potential alternate format editing.
  • Present and provide information to campus departments as well as community partners, schools, and the public on DAC services.
  • May serve rotations between the DAC Director on the campus Care team or other campus committees. May serve on other campus committees or workgroups to support student retention, completion, and/or Guided Pathways initiatives. 
  • Can supervise student peer mentors or part time staff that support the DAC team in implementing accommodations, such as note takers in classrooms.
  • Can offer workshops or events for students with disabilities and/or disability identity groups, depending on campus needs and capacity.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor?s degree OR Associate?s degree AND two (2) years of experience in disability services in higher education or case management work with teens or adults.
  • Knowledge of the ADA, reasonable accommodation, and disability services practices in higher education. 
  • Demonstrated computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word systems as well as information management systems. 
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
